MODEL RM
PRINT TO EMAIL

Collect data remotely from all sorts of measuring instruments, machines, alarm panels, printers, or sensors.

Model RM with SD Memory Card

    - Serial RS-232 Input

    - Record thousands of print reports on SD Card
    - All input data is appended to record.txt

    - User sends an email with a command line in it:
Model RM sends record.txt as an attachment in an email.

Use T-TAP25 Splitter to collect data in the background while
           T-TAP25 Splitter cable
continuing to operate your system as normal.

A Parallel LPT printer interface adapter (Model PT8) is also available
to replace dot matrix printers.
This is a simple and direct way to collect data remotely
without having IT expertise or IT system infrastructure.

Model RM is a RS-232 logger. It records data to an SD memory card. The logged data file can be emailed.

Model RM requires a WiFi connection with internet to access the users email server.

This unit will upgrade your measuring equipment to be able to collect print reports or other text reports to SD Card storage,
and as
well to access the storage remotely without having any special IT skills or IT infrastructure. An optional splitter cable allows the user to tap into an existing, working system to collect serial port data and view it remotely without disrupting the system.

The RM unit is compatible to various types of connectors on serial ports simply by adding the right combination of Male/Female
adapter, 9 Pin to 25 Pin adapter, or adding a "Nul cable".

OPERATION:

The RM unit acts as an email client.
The RM user should acquire an email account with domain name to be dedicated soley for Model RM use:
Example: Bluehost web hosting webmail or web site with one email address. $39USD /year Yr 2024
Example of a users email address may be: rm@sterilizer-mini5.com
The email account you choose should be plain and basic without two-step verification.
Configure Model RM with the IMAP and SMTP server names. (SD Card > config.txt)
Configure Model RM with the recipients to receive the record.txt print data. (SD Card > config.txt)
The config.txt can be removed from SD Card to help keep credentials secure. Model RM will use
inaccessible internal memory to help keep credentials secure.
A user in any location sends an email to the example email address: Example: rm@sterilizer-mini5.com
with the Model RM command in Subject Line: "Model RM(send)". Body content in email is ignored.
Model RM checks the webmail email Inbox every 30 sec.
If it sees an email with Subject Line containing: "Model RM(send)" then Model RM will send SD Card
record.txt as an attachment to recipients specified in SD Card > config.txt
All emails in Inbox are then deleted. RM waits for next email command.
Model RM continues to record user machine/instrument serial data while performing email transfers
without data loss. This function is limited by any excessively long time periods to send an email to one or more recipients
especially caused by the filesize of record.txt transfer being large.
The 90,000 character serial input buffer eliminates most concerns.

SOME CRITERIA TO USE MODEL RM:

- A WiFi internet connection is required. Both Dynamic and Static IP address is supported.
- A dedicated email account should be used, so there is no interference with other email systems. - A basic generic type email account is required without two-step verification.

- Choose an email hosting account with IMAP and SMTP servers. E.g. IMAP Port 993 SMTP Port 465

- The data should be from RS-232 serial interface, however parallel LPT printer interface is supported with add-on Model PT8.

- The data to be captured should be plain ASCII, Generic text, (no rich text, graphics, or escape sequences.) However
the RM unit is fully 8-Bits transparent and will capture and transfer the data exactly as received from the users serial cable.

EXAMPLE APPLICATION:
An industrial alarm panel outputs periodic reports to a printer port which is either RS-232 Serial Interface or Parallel LPT interface.
Problem: The supervisor is miles away in another city and has to drive to the site to collect the historic data.
Solution: Install Model RM to the alarm panel RS-232 Serial port. Then the alarm data can be retrieved from the SD Card in the RM unit by email, saving the supervisor much time and expense. The RM unit can also be set to automatically
send the email up to two times a day to up to three recipients at a time.

For Printer Replacement, consider Model RM if:
1.) Your printer is a dotmatrix such as Epson, Panasonic, Okidata, or thermal
printer such as Seiko. 2.) Interface is: RS-232 Serial. or Parallel LPT (add CS-DB25 or PT8 to Model RM). 3.) Your print data is plain generic ASCII text without graphics.
